While managing Artemis Hospitalβs infrastructure for HCL Infosystems in 2008, managing the Coral EPABX voice switch required bridging traditional TDM/analog copper extensions with ethernet-based IP telephony.
Architecture: Voice VLAN & QoS Packet Tagging
We isolated voice traffic from hospital data traffic using dedicated Voice VLANs and CoS (Class of Service) / DSCP packet marking.
- Voice VLAN Segregation (VLAN 50): Configured Cisco Catalyst switches to automatically assign IP phones to VLAN 50 via CDP (Cisco Discovery Protocol).
- QoS Strict Priority Queuing: Applied
mls qos trust coson switch access ports, setting DSCPEF(Expedited Forwarding - 46) for SIP/RTP voice packets to prevent file downloads from causing audio jitter.

portfastandbpduguardon switch access ports connected to EPABX IP extensions to prevent Spanning-Tree topology recalculations during phone reboots.
